account: verb; Prepare or present a record an account of money given or received.; Example: It accounted for 9.1 percent of ticket sales.
biopic: noun; A film dramatizing the life of a particular person, typically a public or historical figure.; Example: Another very successful type of film in 2012 was the biopic.
comedy: noun; Professional entertainment consisting of jokes and sketches, intended to make an audience laugh.; Example: Comedy films were the most financially successful.
earn: verb; Obtain (money) in return for labour or services.; Example: The proportion of ticket sales earned by that sort of film.
financially: adverb; In a way that relates to finance.; Example: Comedy films were the most financially successful.
genre: noun; A style or category of art, music, or literature.; Example: It indicates how many films of different genres were made.
income: noun; Income is money (or some equivalent value) that an individual or business receives, usually in exchange for providing a good or service.; Example: Comedy films were the most financially successful: 26 films, out of a total of 148, earned 45.4 percent of all the income from ticket sales.
independent films: noun phrase; An independent film, independent movie, indie film, or indie movie is a feature film or short film that is produced outside the major film studio system, in addition to being produced and distributed by independent entertainment companies.; Example: The table provides information about different types of independent films released in the UK.
release: verb; Allow or enable to escape from confinement; set free.; Example: The table provides information about different types of independent films released in the UK.
ticket: noun; A piece of paper or card that gives the holder a certain right, especially to enter a place, travel by public transport, or participate in an event.; Example: The proportion of ticket sales earned by that sort of film.
